Who we are

Meet Demi – Founder of DK Gardens.

Demi is passionate about the restoration of our environment and increasing resiliency in Gulf Island communities, through utilizing native plant species and implementing systems of food security by building food gardens and incorporating edible perennials, shrubs and fruit trees into the landscapes she creates.

DK Gardens has helped people to develop a greater connection to the land, and understand how to grow their own food while improving wellness through enjoying the beautiful and environmentally sustainable gardens around them.

Demi’s educational background is in Agriculture from the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus. Her passion for growing food in sustainable systems comes from being raised on an organic farm/homestead, and has since spent most years of her life working on different types of farms from conventional dairy farming to small scale organic vegetable farms and numerous landscaping companies.

With the changing climate, and food prices constantly on the rise, her focus has been on food sovereignty where her community lies in the Gulf Islands.

““Despite all of our accomplishments, we owe our existence to a 6-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains”
